In Namsskogan, fishing is easily accessible for the whole family and children can have fishing experiences they will remember for a long time.
The Namsskogan card - one fishing card gives access to 800 lakes and 35 rivers - it couldn't be easier!
The Namsen River is recognized as one of the country's best rivers for trout fishing. The river flows through the entire municipality and is easily accessible. In addition, Namsskogan has approximately 800 fishing lakes and 35 rivers, many of which have both trout and char of exceptionally good quality.
Trout is the dominant fish species, and there are areas where you can fish for very good quality trout. In some areas there are also populations of char.
"I cast the 0.20 mm line across the current to avoid getting caught on boulders on the bottom. I open the spool and let the line float freely downwards. There is an abrupt stop. A large fish has snatched the line. The trout has trained its muscles to the max by living its life in a strong current. It pulls out 20 metres of line without blinking. This is the strongest trout I have ever caught on my light 7-footer. After the fifth cast I am convinced that the fish must be over 2 kg. At least. Excitement breeds exaggeration, it is safe to say. When, after a bit of nervous hauling, I get a deep brown, beautiful fish in my net, the weight stops at 1.2 kilos. The luck is intense nonetheless." Excerpt from Alt om Fiske 7/2005
"...Many people equate the Namsen with salmon fishing. What not many people know is that the Øvre Namsen is one of the country's very best rivers for trout fishing! An undiscovered gem with room for far more trout anglers, and easy access. Starting in Trones south of Namsskogan, you also have a number of good trout fishing lakes to choose from, in addition to an exciting family park. A fishing license covers 90 percent of the municipality's 800 fishing lakes and 35 rivers - it couldn't be easier!" Villmarksliv, August 2007.

The Nams Forest Card recommends
Namsen - one of Norway's best trout rivers
There are large and fine brown trout on almost the entire stretch of the Namsen in Namsskogan. In the calm and wide parts of the river it is exciting to try fly and nymph fishing. In the pools and parts with current, worms and sinkers are effective. Here, lures and spinners can also be good tools.
Namsen is easily accessible as it runs parallel to the E6 through large parts of the municipality. If we were to give some specific tips, the area a couple of kilometers south of Brekkvasselv might be worth a try, as well as the waterfall area south of Namsskogan center. There are built thresholds at Kjelmyrfoss and just north of Namsskogan center. There are often fish in the stream below the thresholds.
Tunnsjø River
The Tunnsjøelva River is located in the south of the municipality. Here there is a 20 km stretch of river with many fine rapids. Trout in the Tunnsjøelva is of very good quality, especially in the lower part. On the stretch from the power plant outlet down to Namsen there are many fine fishing spots, and some are equipped with campfire sites and shelters. The area is inviting with many fine tent sites right on the riverbank.
Mellingsvatnet
Only trout are found here and they are known to be of very good quality. The lake is 7 sq km and varies in depth. There are many nice islets scattered throughout the lake, where it is nice to go ashore for a rest. Otter fishing from a boat during the dayfly hatching is recommended. Boats can be rented separately. If you stay in a mountain cabin, a boat is included. Net fishing only takes place during regulated periods and with a limited number of nets. On Mellingsvatnet it is also nice to fish on the ice.
Storgåsvatnet and Litlgåsvatnet
Litlgåsvatnet and Storgåsvatnet are located on a high mountain plateau in an area with easy walking and inviting nature. Many small and large fishing lakes in the immediate vicinity. Only trout in Storgåsvatnet. Litlgåsvatnet has a very dense population of char and here you can find the occasional nice trout along with the char. Ice fishing on Litlgåsvatnet is recommended with children - here you are almost guaranteed to catch a fish!
Stone Mountain
The Steinfjell area is a vast mountain area with fishing lakes in all directions. There are small and large lakes with fish of all sizes. Mostly trout, but some ponds also have char. Some lakes have surviving fish after fish releases. If you are lucky enough to catch one of these on the hook, you can have the fishing experience of a lifetime. The Fjellstyret has a cabin at Finntjønn. It is an excellent starting point for fishing in the northern part of Steinfjellet.
Skorovasfjella and Nessåvatna
Nessåvatna consists of 3 large lakes with Midtivatnet as the “diamond”. Here you can catch both trout and char weighing several kilos. There are marked hiking trails in from Skorovas, making the area easily accessible. A round trip from Skorovas via Nessåvatna and further out into Grøndalen is recommended with a fishing rod.
