Mountain hiking
Namsskogan has several nice areas that are well suited for mountain hiking. If you want to follow marked trails, the areas south of Skorovas are recommended. Here you will find marked tourist association trails, which start at the parking lot below the water tower. One route goes across Gruvfjellet, while the other is a little less hilly and goes around the east side of Gruvvatnet.
The routes meet again at Kroktjønna, and are very suitable as a round trip. At Kroktjønna you have the option of continuing further south, via Midtre Nesåvatn, to Berg Gård in Grong municipality, or down to Grønndalen, where you will reach county road 764 which goes to Skorovas.
North of Namsskogan you will find Gåsvassfjella. The area has no marked trails, but is still well suited for hiking as it is easy to walk and clearly visible.
The easiest way to access the area is to take the road towards Kalvvatn (9 km north of Namsskogan) or Mellingsvatnet (18 km north of Namsskogan). When renting the mountain guide cabins Stordalsbua or Stordalshytta , you will receive keys to the barrier at Frøyningen and can drive right into the area. Without renting the cabins, you will have to park in the parking lot and walk quite a distance. The area is rich in both fish and mullet, so please bring a fishing rod and bucket if you are going to travel in the area. At Gåsvatna there are two more mountain guide cabins, Storgåsvassbua and Litlgåsvassbua . When renting these cabins, you also have access to a boat.
The areas around Gåsvatna offer panoramic views of the Frøyningsfjella mountains to the south, which is truly a beautiful sight. The terrain is gently undulating, with a slight incline at the start if you enter from Kalvvatnveien.
If you want to fish in the areas around Skorovas and Gåsvassfjella, the Namsskogan card covers both areas.
