Hiking in the forest and mountains
Børgefjell National Park
In Namsskogan, the wilderness is close to people. Our largest natural heritage is located in Børgefjell National Park. Here there is a 4 km paved and well-marked trail from the parking lot at Smalvatnet to the national park border and into Namskroken. From Namskroken and further into the national park you have to find your own way. Børgefjell is intended to be a wilderness area without any facilities and here you can therefore get close to nature. The large landscape formations make it easy to find good pitches, but the distances are large so it requires hiking equipment and plenty of provisions as you would imagine further into the national park.
SKOROVAS
Starting from Skorovas you can hike along marked trails south to Nesåvatna and further south to Sandøladalen in Grong. The Norwegian Tourist Association is responsible for the trail network in the area and they also arrange group hikes. For good maps see www.ut.no
GÅSVASSFJELLA
In the northwestern part of the municipality there are also many good trails. The landscape is easy to navigate and we recommend the trip from Fløan by Mellingsvatnet, from there you can walk via Steinvatnet and up to Litlgåsvatnet (4 km) and Storgåsvatnet (5 km). In winter it is a nice ski trip in, usually you follow the marked trails. By the lake the mountain board has two cabins for rent, Litlgåsvassbua and Storgåsvassbua .
