Cultural monuments close to nature
Old Steinfjellvei
Gamle Steinfjellvei is an old road that runs between Namsskogan and Røyrvik municipalities in Trøndelag. Construction of the road began in the summer of 1912, and in the spring of 2013, a total of 300 men were working on the road, in addition to approximately 200 horses that participated in the work.
Today, the road is used by both local residents and tourists, and provides a great starting point for trips into the mountains.
At the top of the mountain, you can hike south along the old historic "Prestvegen" that ran between Trones and Røyrvik.
However, if you go northeast of the road and come just inside the municipal boundary of Røyrvik, you can see the large "Pulpit Stone", which is an old Sami cultural monument.
Millavassdammen
At Millavassdammen there is a fantastic picnic area with a historical feel. Millavassdammen shows what a real dam built of wood looks like. The area is equipped with parking, toilets and a gazebo. In the gazebo there is a lot of information about the timber history of Namsskogan and Indre Namdal.
A little history about the dam.
Namsskogan is part of the old Namse common, which was state common. The common constituted a break in the connection between southern Norway and northern Norway. Since the area was roadless, profitable forestry with a view to export was excluded in these areas.
