By bike in Namsskogan
Here are six cycling routes in Namsskogan. The routes range from 3 to 30 km and are suitable for people of all ages and physical fitness levels.
1. Steinfjellveien
Here you can experience an old road that ran between the municipalities of Namsskogan and Røyrvik. The road was opened in 1912. A cultural and historical monument that is worth experiencing. Good climb up to the top of the mountain. The entire route is about 3 - 3.5 km. On this trip you can optionally combine with one of the bike trails in Røyrvik.
Sights:
At the top of the mountain, you can hike south along the old historic "Prestvegen" that ran between Trones and Røyrvik.
However, if you go north-east of the cycle route and come just inside the municipal boundary of Røyrvik, you can see the large "Pulpit Stone", which is an old Sami cultural monument.
2. Trones – Sønningsvatnet – Trones
This route is suitable for everyone and is a great family route for the younger ones too. Starts from Namsskogan Family Park. The route goes on a solid and nice forest road to Sønningsvatnet (about 5 km from the park), where you will find a gapahuket. Nice to rest and swim. If you choose to continue further, you must expect to roll your bike a few hundred meters before you reach the forest road on the other side in Kjelmofjellet.
Detour:
On this trip you can also cycle along the forest road that goes all the way to Tunnsjøflyan. On the trip you pass a fantastic swimming spot in the Tunnsjøelva. You have to cycle back the same way on the way back. In Tunnsjødalen you also cycle past the old cabin/house "Admiral House" which was built in the late 19th century.
3. Trones – Namsskogan
A route that may be suitable for more experienced cyclists. Recommended starting point at Namsskogan Family Park. On this trip you will experience both gravel roads, paved roads and marshy terrain. You will have to carry/wheel the bike over a small stretch between Kvilåsen and Brekka. A great bike ride for those who choose this route. This bike route can be combined with a detour so that you can get on the bike route that goes over Steinfjellet and the old Steinfjellet road.
4. Åbjøra Road
Here you can cycle through the old road that was built in the 1970s in connection with the construction of power production in the Kalvvatna area. You leave your car at the barrier and can then cycle as far as you want along a beautiful forest road. There is also the opportunity to rent the mountaineering council's cabins that are located along the road. On this trip you can cycle to Nordland County.
5. Trones – Brekkvasselv
A route that is a bit hilly, but a great bike route that can also connect to the other bike route that comes from Trones and to Namsskogan. This bike route will go on the west side of Namsen in a beautiful forest terrain. You must expect to carry the bike a little way along the trail. On this bike route you can easily combine cycling with fishing in Namsen.
Detour:
On this trip you can also cycle westwards along the road that goes inland to Strompedalen. Along this road you can again take several detours to various valleys such as Gåsvassdalen and Ausvassråa. Here you will find a restored fløytar dam called Millavassdammen.
6. Namsskogan – Bjørhusdalen – Namsskogan
A popular cycling route that goes from the center of Namsskogan and after the beautiful Sandåmo waterfall hiking trail and into Bjørhusdalen. Here you cycle again towards Namsskogan sen trum and arrive at the foot of Håpnesklumpen along a beautiful forest road towards the center of Namsskogan. You have to expect to carry the bike a short distance over a stream and some marshy terrain. The place Namsskogan is the municipal center for Namsskogan.
Detour:
Along this road you can take a detour towards a large freshwater lake called Frøyningen.
Sights:
On this trip you can already see a beautiful waterfall called
Sandåmofossan. Here there are shelters along the path for free use by everyone. The path along Sandåmofossan is also adapted for the disabled. Otherwise, we recommend that you take a trip to Holmensenteret, which can show you many exciting things, not least the old "Nyrudstua" which is located inside the center. River crossing is not possible when the water is high. Crossing must be done at your own risk.
